Residents of Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region of Ghana have expressed deep concern following the confirmation and scheduled date for the demolition of the Nkawkaw Central Market by authorities.
According to residents, the decision could significantly disrupt their daily lives, as many rely on the market not just for goods but for trusted, long-standing relationships with sellers.
They say the market has served as a convenient and reliable place where they can easily access essential items from familiar faces.
Some residents fear that once the market is demolished, they may struggle to locate their preferred sellers, making everyday shopping more difficult and time-consuming.
Others worry that the disruption could lead to scarcity of goods or increased prices if a proper transition plan is not implemented.
“This market is where we get almost everything we need, and we know the people we buy from,” a concerned resident shared. “If it is taken away without proper planning, life will become harder for us.”
Residents are therefore calling on authorities to clearly communicate their plans and ensure that alternative arrangements are put in place to minimize inconvenience and protect their access to goods.
As the demolition date approaches, uncertainty continues to grow among residents, who hope their concerns will be addressed before any major action is taken.
