 A devoted Presbyterian member, Wofa Atta, has died following a tragic road incident at the Nkawkaw Achiase well-known as Hotel Junction in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The incident occurred on Friday morning, January 23rd, 2026, shortly after he was returning from a church service.

According to eyewitness accounts, Wofa Atta was knocked down by a HOWO tipper (dump) truck, a heavy-duty Chinese vehicle commonly used for hauling sand, stones, and other construction materials. He reportedly sustained severe injuries and died painfully at the scene.

Some pedestrians who witnessed the incident expressed concern over what they describe as the persistent recklessness of drivers in the area. According to them, drivers in Nkawkaw, particularly around the Hotel Junction, show little regard for pedestrian safety.

One pedestrian Owrayere Ofori Amanfo lamented in Twi,

“Mese, Hotel Junction deɛ Nyame na ɛbɔ ne mma ho ban o; Drivers mfa nnipa nnyɛ hwee wɔ hɔ😢”

translated as, “At Hotel Junction, it is only God who protects pedestrians; drivers do not care about human lives there.”

Eyewitnesses further revealed that as Wofa Atta lay motionless on the road, some pedestrians covered his body with leaves while waiting for the Nkawkaw Police Service to arrive and take charge of the situation. The police are expected to conduct investigations, together with other relevant authorities.

The actual cause of his death has not been officially stated by the Nkawkaw Police Service and they have not yet released a formal statement on the incident. Additionally, no family member of the deceased has yet come forward to speak on the matter.
