A tragic turn of events occurred at Nkawkaw Zongo Barracks today, leaving the local community in shock and mourning after three people were shot dead and one seriously injured.
The victims were sitting at their regular hangout when unidentified attackers barged in and started shooting, according to eyewitnesses. The store where the incident happened was apparently owned by one of the deceased.
For medical care, the injured victim, assumed to be a child, has subsequently been taken to the hospital, and the three deceased have been taken to the mortuary. It is now unknown what motivated this violent crime and if the victims were singled out or caught up in an unconnected argument.
Investigations are still ongoing, and no official motive has been determined yet; however, community sources now think the incident might be connected to a Fulani-related misunderstanding or quarrel.
After being informed, the Ghana Police Service is anticipated to launch a thorough inquiry into the situation. Regarding the next step, the community is eagerly awaiting an official report and answer from the Nkawkaw Police Command.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu West, Halidu Tamimu, has outlined plans to enhance surveillance and police visibility along key areas to help the Nkawkaw Police Service in their investigations as he was interviewed.
He started,
"CCTV cameras will be installed in the area through a partnership with the Minister for Communications and Chief Executive Officer of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) for further investigation."
