Due to misbehaviour, one of the adolescents charged with killing 10-year-old Ismael Mensah Abdullah in Kasoa for a money ritual was moved from the police custody to Nsawam Prison. Since their arrest, the two have been detained by the police.
Ishmael Abdullah, a 10-year-old boy who was slain in 2021, is the subject of the 18-year-old boy's trial alongside that of Felix Nyarko, (15 years old).
Felix Nyarko and the 18-year-old suspect were relocated after Osu Police officers expressed dissatisfaction with their actions and asked that Justice Osei Marfo not put the 18-year-old boy Nicholas Kini back under their care.
Senior state attorney Nana Adoma Osei told the court on Monday, June 24, 2024, that following the court session, the Osu Police Station officers had asked that the 18-year-old boy Nicholas Kini not be taken back into their custody.
Because they had no other option, the court also remanded him to Nsawam prison on the basis of the data they had obtained from the Osu Police Station.
"In view of the intimation from the counsel for the republic, an order is hereby made for a trial warrant to be issued against Nicholas Kini, the second accused person to be kept at the Nsawam Prison and brought to court as needed," the court directed.
The two suspects said that they killed Ismael following a spiritualist they saw on TV. The case has caused a stir in the community and anger on the role that money ritualism plays in society.
According to reports, Felix Nyarko, a 15-year-old boy, was rotated around many police stations in Accra, including those in Nima, Ministries, Cantonment, and Osu. An important stage in the case, which has received a lot of attention, is the 18-year-old boy's transfer to Nsawam Prison.
Since the suspects' confession, questions have been raised concerning the media's and spiritualists' possible involvement in encouraging hazardous activities.
Despite the court's summation being prepared, the court voiced anxiety over the jurors' absence. Murtala Inusah, the EIB Network Legal Affairs Correspondent, stated that on Monday, June 24, the court was anticipated to wrap up the trial and receive the jury's decision.
However, there was still another postponement as a result of the jurors' absence, who acted as judges of the case's facts.
In an attempt to encourage the jurors to report for duty, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo postponed the case to July 8, 2024. Following its prior adjournments on May 7 and June 24, 2024, this is the second time the judgment has been postponed.
Many people are appealing for justice for Ismael and his family in the current case.
