On Wednesday, the 2nd of July, 2025, two people lost their lives following a violent altercation at Bobo Shanti, a well-known weed- or cannabis-based place in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
A quarrel over a cigarette allegedly led to Elvis, a pub attendant, fatally stabbing a Zongo guy named Baba Salau, also known as "Toska," who was to be in his thirties, multiple times to death at the spot. According to the report, Elvis, the pub attendant, was also stabbed by Baba Salau, and he was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.
It is alleged by some residents that Baba Salau firstly stabbed the pub attendant in the rib, leaving the knife there, and then the pub attendant also took it out of his rib and used it to stab Baba several times to death.
The dispute took a terrible turn when a local meat vendor, who also stays at Zongo, is popularly known for his chinchinga business, and lost his son two years ago at the same pub, also collapsed and died.
This meat vendor also has a son named Baba, according to some reports from some residents in his area. When he learned of the tragic news that a Zongo guy named Baba had been fatally stabbed several times by a pub attendant, he thought it was his son, Baba, who had lost his younger brother two years prior in the same tragic news at the same pub, which led to the collapse of this chinchinga vendor.
Due to the multiple violent episodes and fatalities that frequently occurred there, some resident have demanded the demolished of Bobo Shanti and some of the irate people have already protested by damaging some elements of the pub.
