Onua TV Employee Captain Smart and Media General Limited Being Sued by Deputy IGP Yohunu for deformation.

 Blessed Godsbrain Smart, also known as Captain Smart, and Media General Limited are the targets of a defamation lawsuit brought by Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tettey Yohunu in the Accra High Court.

Onua TV employee Captain Smart is being sued by Deputy IGP Yohunu for deformation.

According to the Deputy IGP's lawsuit, which was filed on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Captain Smart claimed on a radio show on December 27, 2024, that "some elements within the Ghana Armed Forces and some officials of the Ghana Police Service had intended to destabilize Ghana's constitutional order by causing a coup d'état."

In the court filings, Smart claimed that Mr. Christian Tettey Yohunu's appointment as Deputy IGP was politically driven and that he took part in talks to get the job.

Yohunu was also accused by the broadcaster of belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and of visiting the residences of National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials.

The Deputy IGP is requesting an injunction to prevent the defendants from making any more defamatory remarks as well as general damages for defamation based on these claims.

In addition, he is asking the court to issue an order compelling the defendants to unqualifiedly apologize and repudiate the claims in Onua TV publications and three Onua FM radio announcements.
