So in an effort to improve their network Telecel Ghana has implemented certain measures to make their mobile banking business or operations more seamless, smooth, and safe for customers.
How the Scam Works, or Understanding the Scam.
Push-Based Scam: This scam involves victims receiving a fraudulent "push" notification or request to approve a mobile money transaction.
No PIN Required: A key feature of this scam is that it often bypasses the need for a PIN, leading to funds disappearing rapidly and without the user's consent.
Targeting Vulnerable Users: Unsuspecting users are targeted, with reports of significant amounts as about ₵1,000 to ₵100,000, being lost in a short period.
Fake Pages and Groups: Some scammers or unidentified entities are creating unauthorized or fake social media pages and groups impersonating Telecel Ghana to get rid of customers.
How to Protect Your Telecel Cash Account Safe or Yourself from Being Scammed.
Ignore Unsolicited Push Requests: If you did not initiate a mobile money transaction, do not approve or respond to the request.
Always Verify Before Confirming PIN: Double-check with the supposed sender to confirm the authenticity of any transaction request before proceeding.
Immediate Report of Suspicious Activity: Report any fraudulent activity immediately to both Telecel Ghana and MTN Ghana to help prevent others from falling victim.
Avoid Long Conversation with Strange or Unknown People: Stop having long conversations with unknown or strange people claiming to be calling from the Telecel Ghana office and wanting to assist you or have mistakenly sent money to your Telecel account.
Avoid Giving Your Telecel PIN to Friends or Relatives: One of the best ways to keep your Telecel account safe is to avoid giving your Telecel PIN to friends or relatives to withdraw money for you because you don't know when one or more can turn into a "cobra" to steal from you.
Never Give Out Any OTP: Avoid giving out any One-Time Password (OTP) to unknown callers claiming to be calling from the Telecel Ghana office or any social media pages or groups and wanting to assist you in anything.
Always Log Out of Your Telecel App Account: Never leave your Telecel account open on your friend's or any relative's phone after using it to perform a transaction. And always make sure it is also logged out on your personal phone too after every transaction.
Always Set PIN or Password or Fingerprint: One of the best ways to keep your Telecel account safe is to set a PIN or password on your Telecel app to avoid anyone getting access to it; if possible, you can also set a fingerprint on it.
