In order to enhance their network and improve their mobile banking business or operations to be smoother, more seamless, and more secure or safe for customers, Telecel Ghana has issued a warning to its cherished customers and has put some measures in place to prevent customers from being scammed by the unknown individuals.

How the Scam Works, or Understanding the Scam.

Push-Based Scam: This scam involves victims receiving a fraudulent "push" notification or request to approve a mobile money transaction

No PIN Required: A key feature of this scam is that it often bypasses the need for a PIN, leading to funds disappearing rapidly and without the user's consent.

Targeting Vulnerable Users: Unsuspecting users are targeted, with reports of significant amounts, such as ₵4,600, being lost in a short period.

Fake Pages and Groups: Some scammers or unidentified entities are creating unauthorized or fake social media pages and groups impersonating Telecel Ghana to get rid of customers.

Telecel Ghana warns consumers about frequent mobile money scams, especially a typical push-based scam that impersonates a legitimate transaction that requires a PIN in order to defraud them of their money.

To avoid this, Telecel Ghana advises users to ignore unsolicited push requests and joining any unverified social media pages and groups with the promise to pay money, double money, or reward on prepaid tasks.

They also recommend their safeguard application, Telecel Play, to be used by customers by downloading it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and cautioned them to be very vigilant also.

They warn customers to avoid interacting with unknown callers impersonating them and stop giving their OTP (one-time password) to them.

Telecel Ghana urges its customers to always cancel any unauthorized push-based prompt on their phone to enter their PIN for transactions by verifying transfers and reporting suspicious activities to Telecel Ghana immediately if they are being scammed or fall victim to a scam.
