A major breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the shocking murder of Mr. Andrews Amankwah, father-in-law of Hon. Sammy Gyamfi, following the arrest of key members of a suspected robbery syndicate in Kumasi.
Security officials have confirmed that four suspects linked to the high-profile killing have been apprehended in a series of intelligence-led operations carried out across Kumasi and its surrounding areas.
Weapons and Incriminating Items Recovered.
During the operations, authorities recovered several items believed to have played a crucial role in the planning and execution of the robbery and subsequent murder.
These include:
● A Bruni Mod 84 pistol.
● Eight (8) rounds of live ammunition.
● A tracking detection device.
● Forged vehicle registration documents.
● A Toyota Corolla S vehicle, now impounded by police.
Investigators suspect the tracking detection device may have been used to monitor movements, while the forged documents and vehicle are believed to have aided the suspects in evading security checks.
Suspects Identified.
According to police sources, the suspects arrested have been identified as:
■ Akwasi Manu (47) – a farmer
■ Bashiru Tanko, also known as “TK” (33)
■ Kojo Amponsah, also known as “Kamakazi” (35)
■ Eric Antwi Duku (42) – believed to be the gang leader
Police revealed that Eric Antwi Duku, alleged to be the mastermind of the syndicate, sustained gunshot wounds during a special operation aimed at apprehending him. He was rushed to a medical facility but was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
