Prices of Cindy Rice and other rices have reportedly dropped significantly across several markets in Ghana, sparking public praise for the current New Democratic Congress (N.D.C) administration led by President John Dramani Mahama.
In 2024, during the administration of the New Patriotic Party (N.P.P) under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a bag of Cindy Rice was selling for about GH₵130, according to market traders and consumers. However, recent market checks indicate that the same product is now selling for GH₵60, with some markets offering it for as low as GH₵50.
Traders attribute the reduction in prices to improved economic conditions, better market regulation, and government interventions aimed at stabilizing food prices. Consumers, on the other hand, say the drop has brought significant relief amid the high cost of living experienced in recent years.
Many supporters and sympathizers of the N.D.C have praised the Mahama and his led government for what they describe as “practical measures” to reduce economic hardship and ease the financial burden on households.
While economic analysts caution that broader data is needed to fully assess nationwide trends, the falling price of staple food items like rice is being welcomed by many Ghanaian's as a positive sign of economic recovery.
