If NPP Loses The 2024 Elections, We'll Lose Our Employment, According To School Feeding Caterers In Kumasi.

If the New Patriotic Party is kicked out of power, several caterers for the school feeding program in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, have said they would lose their employment.

Several Ashanti regional caterers, including Dorothy, flocked to the Regional Minister's office at the Regional Coordinating Council on Monday, singing and pleading with the Minister to step in and resolve their outstanding arrears.

The caterers claimed they were due a variety of amounts in arrears for the meals they had given to schools for three academic terms (one academic year), and even when their employers volunteered to pay them for one term, they were deducted money for "non-teaching days."

The group approached the minister in an obnoxious and disorderly manner, asking for a favour from him, but Simon Osei Mensah refused to even acknowledge them or take their petition.

The Minister reprimanded the upset caterers and departed their presence when they refused to listen to his pleas for calm.

Dorothy claims that the Regional Minister was also to blame for their dissatisfaction since the caterers who provide meals for the schools had anticipated that he would show them affection.

“What happened was that he came out, and then he said why are you here with this noise, why are you coming to ask something from your father and you are making noise, get out from here… so we decided to delegate three of our leaders to go there and plead just for him to come and say a word to the women so that we can calm down but he refused.

“We tried our best just for him to come and say a word but he didn’t,” said Dorothy, explaining that while they were not so sad about what the Minister did, “but what we were expecting from him was love, just show some kind of love because we knew that he wasn’t the one going to pay us and we were not going to demand anything from him but to present something to him and for him to say maybe (take heart for all will be well) but he didn’t show love.”

In an appearance on the Citi Morning Show on Wednesday, Dorothy Ofori-Sarpong, who feeds lunches for students at basic schools in the area, asserted that all caterers in the area are legitimate NPP members.

She claims that if the National Democratic Congress wins the 2024 elections, they will not be re-elected. All present caterers must be NPP members, she said, according to well-known facts.

Dorothy Ofori-Sarpong said that the government has to take notice of the region's caterers' issue since they have been making sacrifices for a long time and are due overdue payments.

“We know that when the NDC wins power, we will all lose our jobs.,” Ofori-Sarpong told host Bernard Avle adding “All of us are members of the NPP”

Dorothy also criticized the Ashanti Regional Minister for treating them disrespectfully when they surrounded his office to demand payment for their debts.

She confessed that the caterers had essentially run out of money and they haven't been paid in three school terms.

The caterers, who are requesting that the government increase the amount and pay them their arrears, voiced their displeasure with the Regional Minister for how he treated them.

In the meanwhile, Simon Osei Mensah, the minister for the Ashanti Region, has clarified why he was so irate when caterers for the government's school food program in the Ashanti Region presented him with a petition on Monday, April 3.

Addressing the media, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah, however, is adamant that the caterers did not follow the proper procedure and were demonstrating against the Regional Coordinating Council, which forced him to respond in the manner he did.

“I was in a meeting yesterday when I heard some noise outside the office, and so I sent my special assistant to find out, and he came and told me it was caterers protesting outside. They did not even seek security clearance before demonstrating, so you can imagine what would have happened if the security personnel at the Regional Coordinating Council had reacted to them”.

“We must be truthful to ourselves in this country and stop pampering people because impunity is too much. Though I sympathise with the caterers, we should not allow people to break the law in their attempt to have their problems solved. We should solve our problems through legal means. You can’t just take the law into your hands and do what you want because I will not tolerate that.” He stated.
