On March 23, 2023, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana, the Black Stars played their opening match in the AFCON qualifiers against the Palancas Negras of Angola. During a close encounter, the Black Stars prevailed with a 1-0 score thanks to an outstanding goal from Antoine Semenyo.

After the victory, Asamoah Gyan was seen enjoying himself with Sammy Anim Addo, the vice chairman of the Black Meteors and chairman of the Ghana Olympic Team (National U-23).
