Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former minister of environment, science, and technology, asserts that the acts of some individuals rendered Ghana's attempts to eventually address the problems impacting the environment futile.
He claimed that while he was minister, those and organizations required by law to protect the environment did not do so and actually made matters worse.
Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng claimed that between 2017 to 2020, organizations like the Lands Ministry, Minerals Commission, and Forestry Commission disregarded their duties.
He named certain people in his report who, either directly or indirectly, allegedly wrecked the environment.
The following list of people is said to be responsible for the nation's present environmental situation:
* Otchere-Darko, Gabby
It is stated that Mr. Otchere-Darko, a prominent NPP member, called Professor Frimpong-Boateng to defend a business that was aggressively harming the environment, particularly the forests and River Offin in the Apaprama and Kobro Forests.
Mr. Otchere-Darko, who asserts that he hired the professor to look into his client Heritage, a business with mining licenses, has refuted this assertion.
* The late Sir John (Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie)
According to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, the late Sir John (Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie) Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie regularly distributed timber concessions, even in forests reserved for logging.
As well as doing this, he "gave forestry entry permits to mining companies, both large and small scale, including those of foreign nationals for prospecting activities at a time when the President had put a ban on that activity."
* Sir John
In front of the president, he allegedly described Sir John as the biggest threat to Ghana's woods.
* Chuck Owusu
According to the report, Mr. Charles Owusu, the Director of Operations at the Forestry Commission, allegedly assisted Sir John in finding Chinese gangs to mine with.
He was also despoiling woods, farmland, water bodies, and the entirety of the biodiversity while mining a forest reserve without a permit.
* All IMCIM members, excluding Akwasi Oppong Fosu and Joseph Kofi Adda
In order to combat illegal mining, President Akufo-Addo established the Inter Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) in 2017. However, some of its members are claimed to have left the committee.
* Prof. Frimpong Boateng claims that the following people were responsible for its collapse;
Former Lands and Natural Resources Minister (MLNR) Peter Amewu; Former Chieftaincy & Religious Affairs Minister Samuel Kofi Dzamesi; Former Regional Re-Organisation and Development Minister Dan Botwe; Former Monitoring and Evaluation Minister Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei; Former Lands Minister John Peter Amewu; Former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery; Former Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul; Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah.
* Quarm, Joseph Albert
Former Manso Nkwanta MP Joseph Albert Quarm is accused of using his membership on the Minerals Commission to gain numerous large-scale concessions in his area, purportedly for community mining interests.
According to the investigation, "He ultimately sold these concessions to private individuals, including party members, for two hundred thousand Cedis per concession."
* Frank Asiedu Bekoe, Charles Nii Teiko, and Laud Commey
The group, who are allegedly Jubilee House appointees, is charged with obstructing investigations in order to facilitate illicit mining operations.
* Jacob Adjei Mensah
The former Wassa East MP has allegedly been actively mining in the Subri forest for years, according to Professor Frimpong Boateng.
* Boafo, Mr. S.K.
According to reports, the former chairman of the Minerals Commission Board assisted in undermining community mining, an idea developed by the Inter Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
To prevent the opening of a community mining site, he reportedly summoned the MCE of Asante Akim Central.
* Donald Entsuah
Donald Entsuah and Simon Ayman, a Canadian, shared ownership of the mining firm C&J Alyeska. It is said that his business stopped localities from entering forest areas to reach their fields.
* Kweku Baako
The journalist is alleged to have taken the side of C&J and published derogatory statements about Prof. Frimpong-Boateng in relation to his efforts to put a halt to illicit mining.
* Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
The NDC and NPP have both accused Mr. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah of gathering a group of journalists from associated media outlets to plot a plan to assassinate him at the Forest Hotel in Dodowa.
The assertions, however, have been refuted by the information minister.
“Over the years, I had nothing but great admiration for Prof Boateng’s public spirited works and as an inspirational citizen. I feel gravely offended over the false claims he has made and the hurtful conclusions he has sought to exact about me precisely because of the great esteem in which I have held him,” He is quoted to have said by Ghanaweb.
*Seth Mantey
Seth Mantey, who was detained for selling an excavator illegally, is accused of being protected by the former Senior Minister.
* As well as Ekow Ewusi, John Ofori-Atta
In order to use Seth Mantey's bank account at the National Investment Bank for what was allegedly used for money laundering, Mr. John Ofori-Atta, a former Nation Al Security Coordinator for the Central Region, and Mr. Ewusi are believed to have contracted with Mantey.
