Azumah Nelson, a former professional boxer from Ghana who competed from 1979 to 2008, was a two-weight world champion, having won the WBC featherweight belt from 1984 to 1987 and the WBC super-featherweight title twice from, 1988 and 1997.
On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, the retired boxer released a statement in which he acknowledged the passing of his mother. Azumah Nelson remembered his late mother as a devout woman who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. Eighty-Six years (86yrs) Madam Comfort Atwei Quarco died on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.
According to Nelson, he spent three days with his mother days ago, where he could see her in pain before she passed away.
"I spent time with her three days ago and could tell she was in pain. She is at peace now,” he revealed.
"After raising her children well and seeing her grandchildren, she has done very well and deserves some rest."
"This is a celebration of life. The Bible says in all things we should give thanks to God so we thank the almighty for this one too.”
One of the finest boxers to ever come out of Africa, Azumah Nelson is known for having amassed many trophies over his career. The 64-year-old took part in a staggering 47 battles, winning 39 of them, drawing twice, and just dropping six. He asked for prayers for his family and said that information about the funeral would soon be made public.
